Town of Ocean City Parking Enforcement Officer - Seasonal in Ocean City, Maryland

Job Summary SUMMARY-

Randomly patrols within one of two designated zones as assigned. Utilizes either a vehicle and vehicle-mounted License Plate Recognition unit, or a handheld License Plate Recognition unit, to assist in identifying vehicles parked in violation of Town parking rules. Issues citations and/or warnings for parking violations in accordance with Town parking rules and Division policies and procedures.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESinclude the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Is responsible for checking out, checking in, and accounting for inventory of enforcement equipment, and monitors its condition for repair or replacement needs for communication to the Lead Parking Enforcement Officer and/or the Parking Manager.
  • Monitors condition of parking facilities and equipment for maintenance, repair, and restocking needs, for communication to the Lead Parking Enforcement Officer and/or Parking Manager.
  • Identifies defective parking meters or kiosks, and obstructed or damaged traffic control signs and curb markings, for communication to the Lead Parking Enforcement Officer and/or Parking Manager.
  • Randomly patrols, by vehicle or on foot, within one of two designated zones as assigned by the Parking Manager or Lead Parking Enforcement Officer.
  • Utilizes either a vehicle and vehicle-mounted License Plate Recognition unit, or a handheld License Plate Recognition unit to assist in identifying vehicles parked in violation of Town parking rules - then issues citations and/or warnings accordingly using a handheld device and connected printer, per Town parking rules and Division policies and procedures.
  • Is responsible for proper use, care, security, and safe return of the enforcement equipment issued for each shift.
  • Provides occasional customer service assistance, when requested, for the proper use of parking kiosks.
  • Makes careful reports of any vehicle accident, injury, or confrontation incidents.
Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:One (1) year of work experience in the field of parking enforcement is preferred. A High School Diploma or General Equivalency is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:Valid driver's license required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to de-escalate confrontations and handle disagreements effectively. Must have working knowledge of the Towns geography. Must have the ability to communicate clearly with staff and citizens.

Supplemental Information

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to speak, read, and write to communicate effectively in English. Ability to complete basic information forms (on paper or electronically) with accuracy.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as sums and differences. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and apply standard rules, laws, policies, and procedures to unique circumstances. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. Walking extended distances is sometime required. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
