Expeditors is seeking a motivated and well-qualified attorney with at least three (3) years of experience practicing law in a law firm or the corporate legal department of a global corporation to support both the Compliance and Real Estate/Global Sourcing practice groups. The position will assist with complex legal matters, advising Expeditors' internal clients on legal implications and risk exposures involved in global regulatory and trade compliance matters and real estate and procurement matters across multiple geographies.

As a Commercial Contracts Attorney, you will support the global Legal Department in representing the company's best interests in real estate and global sourcing matters; interactions with landlords, vendors, and service providers; contract negotiations; and other opportunities. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial service contracts and other commercial documents, confidentiality agreements, lease agreements, construction agreements, equipment leases, equipment purchase agreements, consulting agreements, and information technology-related license documents.

In addition, the position will provide routine support on regulatory and trade compliance related topics, litigation management and other general legal questions from various business teams globally. A successful candidate must be able to effectively manage multiple matters with different priorities at the same time.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Laws, or equivalent degree in Laws.

  • Licensed/authorized to practice law in a jurisdiction in the US, Mexico, or in any jurisdiction within the Americas region, in good standing.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a top law firm preferred.

  • In-house experience working in the law department of a Fortune 500 company highly desirable, but not required

  • Experience in freight forwarding, logistics, transport and related sectors (preferred but not required).

  • Strong experience in real estate and commercial law.

  • Contract drafting and negotiation experience.

  • Working knowledge of trade compliance related issues.

  • Strong knowledge of, and practical experience advising on trade compliance matters.

  • The ability to identify, analyze, assess, and communicate legal risks to enable internal clients to make quality, risk-adjusted business decisions.

  • Impeccable integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness and an appropriate initiative and work ethic.

  • Excellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.

  • Excellent business judgment and common sense.

  • Fluent oral and written English required. Nearly all written communications are conducted in English.

Professional level competency in Portuguese is preferred but not required. Fluency in additional languages an asset.
